Keith Kazmark
Mayor

Let me begin by wishing each of you a Happy New Year!

I am very excited and honored to serve as your new Mayor and to lead our community along with the members of the Borough Council.

As we begin this new administration in Woodland Park, I look forward to representing all the members of our commu-nity. In light of the difficult economic conditions in our country and the challenges facing local government, it is vital that we put our differences aside and work together to move our town forward.

During the transition, I met with Mayor Pat Lepore, Administrator/Municipal Clerk Kevin Galland, department heads and each of our professionals to discuss the status of our Borough and plot a path forward in 2012.

Without question, the top issue for our residents is property taxes, and we will aggressively pursue shared services agreements to reduce the burden on our taxpayers. To date, we have already worked with the Woodland Park Board of Education to share a grant writer and will split the cost of this service. This saves tax dollars by sharing the cost and provides great opportunity to secure additional outside dollars to fund projects in both the town and the schools.

You should also be made aware that our administration is facing significant challenges with regard to our sewer system. In part, due to Hurricane Irene, the force main that is jointly owned by Woodland Park, Little Falls and Totowa has failed in multiple areas near the north end of McBride Avenue in Paterson. While the actual line is not in Woodland Park, it is our responsibility and that of our two sister Passaic Valley communities. This replacement will be an expensive undertaking. I will keep you abreast of the progress to ensure the health and safety of our residents.

I also look forward to increasing communication and transparency in government, maintaining and enhancing our open space areas, seeking energy saving initiatives, improving our infrastructure and working with our emergency service personnel to keep our community safe.

Please know that the Mayor’s Office will continue to be open from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Monday evenings, beginning on January 9, 2012. Please feel free to stop by or call us at 973-345-8100 ext. 211. As always, you can also contact me via e-mail at kkazmark@wpnj.us.

I again wish you a happy and healthy New Year!
