| BG STUDENTS TAKE PART IN TREE PLAINTING — During an observance of Arbor Day on Apr. 27, Mayor Keith Kazmark spoke to the 4th Grade Class of Beatrice Gilmore School about the importance of protecting the environment. The students were also told by Maureen Mulroony, Pres. of W.P.’s Historic Preservation Society, about the Dowling sisters whose property has become Dowling Gardens. BG’s principal, Carlos Gramata, was presented with a copy of “The Lorax” by Dr. Seuss. And, of course, a new tree was planted in the park. |

| BOROUGH PROUD OF PVHS SENIOR — Mayor Kazmark and the Council presented Chris Herrmann with a proclamation recognizing his acceptance to the US Naval Academy. Herrmann will graduate from Passaic Valley High School in June, begin Plebe Summer soon after, and complete the academy training in 2016. His father, Dave, his mother, Michele, and his sister, Kayleigh stood beside him during the presentation. Members of the W.P. Fire Dept, including Chief Paul Salomone, and the PVHS Bd. of Ed., including Superintendent Dr. Viktor Joganow, were also present. |

| Work Starts On Hillery St. Intersection |

INTERSECTION BEING IMPROVED — The Mayor and Council were
recently presented with plans for the County of Passaic to install traffic
lights and new crosswalks, at the intersection of Hillery St. and McBride
Ave. New curbs and sidewalks will also be done to widen Hillery St.
The $330,000 project begins on Apr. 9 and is expected to take 2–3
months to complete. Two-way traffic will be maintained during con-

| NJDOT Awards $250K Grant |
The Borough has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the N.J. Dept. of Transportation’s Fiscal Year 2012 Municipal Aid Program.
Woodland Park was chosen from 661 applications to receive money available from the Transportation Trust Fund.
The NJDOT funds will be used for road improvements to Overmount Ave.

Noise Ordinance Amended
To Change Prohibited Hours |
Ordinance No. 10-5, known as “Noise Ordinance Amending Time Periods”, prohibits “loud, disturbing and unnecessary noise” in violation of Section 5-17.4 Prohibited Acts.
These are “prohibited between the hours of 9:00 P.M. and 7:00 A.M., on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednes-day and Thursday; and the hours of 10:30 P.M. and 7:00 A.M. on the days of Friday and Saturday, in a manner as to be plainly audible at a distance of fifty (50) feet from the building, structure or vehicle in which noise is emanating shall be prima face evidence of a violation of this section.”

Solar Panels Approved For
Mounting On PSE&G Utility Poles |
PSE&G received approval from the Bd. of Public Utilites to mount solar energy units on 200,000 utility poles throughout N.J. By 2013, 80 mega-watts is expected to be generated by solar, with half coming from pole-mounted installations
The solar panels will not be power-ing street lights mounted on the poles. They will actually feed elec-tricity directly into the power grid.

Health Insurance For Uninsured
With Pre-existing Conditions |
A new program administered by Horizon Blue Cross/Blue Shield, called NJ Protect, took effect on Aug. 1 to cover uninsured residents with pre-existing conditions.
First day coverage is offered, as well as preventive care with no out-of-pocket costs.

| NJ FamilyCare ‘Express Applications’ Available Online |
More than 450,000 children in New Jersey do not have health care coverage, according to data provided by their parents’ state tax returns. The state is using this information to help enroll children in the NJ FamilyCare program.
NJ FamilyCare is a low-cost or free program for income-eligible families. For instance, a family of four earning up to $77,175 (or 350 percent of the federal poverty level) can qualify to insure their children for about $130 a month in the state- and federally-funded program.
